Jimmy Carter to sign all his books at free event in Atlanta

"The pleasure does not fade as the years go by," says Carter, 93, who, along with creating handmade furniture and other items in his Plains woodshop, still spends a week each year building Habitat for Humanity houses. "In fact, with age my diminished physical strength has eliminated some of the formerly competing hobbies and made woodworking even more precious to me."

But wait, it gets even better: Carter also will sign any of the other 29 books he has authored during the event, which is free. Copies of his books will be available for purchase in the museum store.

With subject matter ranging from memoirs ( “An Hour Before Daylight: Memories of a Rural Boyhood,”  “Christmas in Plains), faith and aging (”A Full Life: Reflections at Ninety”) to public affairs ( “A Government as Good as Its People”), poetry and even a Revolutionary War era novel, there’s plenty to choose from.

But choose you must. Carter will only sign five books per person and only those written by him. In order to be able to sign everyone’s books, the library says, he will not be able to pose for photos or personalize books, nor will he sign photos or memorabilia.
