A Newton County man died in November 2018 after being shot inside his home, according to investigators. But before he died, Wintez Moody was able to tell a 911 operator who had fired the shot.

“It’s Trea Johnson, it’s Trea Johnson,” Moody told the operator, according to prosecutors. “He shot me, he just shot me. I’m bleeding.”

Moody’s words likely helped lead to his killer’s conviction.

Trea Johnson was convicted of murder and multiple armed robberies, according to the Newton County District Attorney. On Wednesday, he was given three life sentences, plus 15 years, without the possibility of parole.

On Nov. 5, 2018, Johnson robbed two people he had invited to his Newborn home, according to the DA. From there, Johnson went to Moody’s home, where he used a brick to break a backdoor glass and enter.

Moody called 911 to report the break-in, telling the operator he knew the person responsible. While on the phone, a shot was fired at Moody. The 22-year-old, a father of two sons, died from his injuries.

“During the investigation, it was discovered that Johnson and Moody had argued on social media and via text messages a few days prior to the murder,” the DA’s office said in a news release.

Johnson eluded capture for two days before he was arrested in Kennesaw.
