An employee at a Huddle House in Gainesville was shot multiple times Wednesday night, police said.

The 60-year-old victim, identified as Michael Benham of Lula, was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in critical condition, but he is expected to survive, Gainesville police spokesman Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said in a statement.

Police are investigating the shooting and have not made an arrest. Holbrook said there may be more than one assailant.

Officials said someone entered the Huddle House in the 1900 block of Jesse Jewell Parkway about 11:30 p.m. and shot at Benham, who is the cook. Another employee was able to “get away and seek help at a nearby convenience store,” Holbrook said.

Police have not released a possible motive.
