A DeKalb County hotel was evacuated for several hours Thursday night due to a suspicious device, according to police. But inside the hotel, investigators found several pieces to a string of crimes, leading to four arrests.

Brookhaven police were called to the Holiday Inn on Chamblee-Dunwoody Road after reports of possible drug activity, according to Lt. Brandon Gurley. Inside a hotel room, officers found drugs, weapons and a suspicious device, Gurley said.

“We have at this point cleared the entire hotel,” Gurley said Thursday afternoon. “We’ve got everyone out for their safety.”

Shortly after 11 p.m., officers were preparing to allow hotel guests to return to rooms, Gurley said. The device inside the hotel was determined to be an explosive and was removed from the scene, he said.

One man who tried to run from officers was later captured and arrested, police said. Brandon Hughes, 31, was arrested at the scene, along with three other suspects whose names were not released late Thursday.
