A hostage was rescued and a suspect is in custody after shots were fired in a Washington state city Thursday night. The suspect was apprehended after exchanging gunfire with deputies after being barricaded in a Parkland business, the Pierce County Sheriff's Office said.
The suspect was wearing body armor was believed to have been shot by deputies, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The incident occurred at Sky Motors before 8 p.m., the Sheriff's Office said.
The Pierce County Sheriff's Department said an armed suspect entered the business and took one person hostage. The suspect then fired multiple rounds inside the business.
Deputies were able to rescue the hostage.
Deputies said the suspect continued to fire shots at deputies and across a street. It is believed that the suspect barricaded himself inside.
All deputies and officers are accounted for and uninjured.
A SWAT team remains at the scene.
The public is urged to stay away from the area.
