Police are asking hospitals to be on the lookout for a suspect who was shot in the face during an attempted robbery at a Chinese restaurant in Fayetteville Friday night.

The suspect’s wound could be life-threatening, said Lt. Mike Whitlow, a Fayetteville police spokesman.

“If he hasn’t already sought medical attention he is going to be going downhill very quickly just from the amount of blood loss but also from the damage from the bullet wound or possibly bullet wounds,” Whitlow said.

“What we would expect is for somebody to run across him. He is going to be injured and seeking medical attention or somebody is going to see him injured. And we certainly encourage somebody to call the Fayetteville Police Department or call 911 wherever they are and report that.”

The shootout happened Friday night after two suspects entered the rear of the China Café 8 at 913 Glynn Street North and held three employees at gunpoint. One of the employees drew a pistol and fired several times, hitting one of the suspects in the face.

The other suspect returned fire and hit one of the restaurant employees in the abdomen. That employee was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and was listed in critical but stable condition Saturday, Whitlow said.

The suspects did not get away with any cash but they took a cellphone from one of the employees, Whitlow said. After the shootout, the suspects fled to a vehicle, possibly a black four-door sedan, Whitlow said.

The suspects are young black males, Whitlow said, and one of them was wearing a skeleton-type mask. That matches the description of one of the suspects who robbed Fayetteville’s Golden Chopstix restaurant on Oct. 3.

Police have gathered evidence from the scene of Friday’s shootout, including blood from the suspect who fled.

“There was of course a lot of blood evidence, which is DNA for us,” Whitlow said. “That is good evidence.”
