Phillip Ray Lester, 61, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, the television station reported. He was arrested Tuesday and is being held in the Fresno County Jail.

Police said the two were fighting for an undetermined reason, KSEE reported. The incident was caught on video, with Lester allegedly wielding a baseball bat while the other man had a metal rod, KFSN reported.

"(Lester) went to the other homeless persons camping area (and) began tearing down his tent," Fresno police Lt. Mark Hudson told the television station. "That's when the victim confronted him and that's when the suspect began striking him with a baseball bat."

The victim was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries, KFSN reported. He is expected to survive but may require surgery, the television station reported.
