A group of burglars with exquisite taste broke into a high-end Phipps Plaza clothing store early Thursday, and took expensive purses and watches before apparently fleeing in a luxury car.

Officers called to the mall on Peachtree Road in Buckhead about 6:30 a.m. Thursday discovered that a number of handbags and watches had been stolen from the Versace store, but were baffled over how the thieves got into the store as there were no signs of forced entry.

“Officers looked over the inside of the store but could find no entry point, the back door being securely bolted,” Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in an email.

Jones said a security guard discovered the burglary after seeing three men running from the mall to the parking deck “and getting in a Mercedes-type vehicle before leaving.”

She said detectives were working to get security video from the store. Police did not release a dollar figure on the value of the stolen merchandise.
