Authorities are searching for a Hall County inmate who walked away from a work detail on jail grounds Friday morning and left in an SUV waiting nearby.

David Daniel Morgan, 37, of Gainesville, left the facility on Barber Road sometime between 8:50 and 9 a.m., according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies said he made his escape in a 2006 silver Chevrolet Trailblazer with Georgia tag number RVQ8587.

It was unknown who was driving the Chevy.

Morgan had been in Hall County’s custody since Jan. 9 on a nonviolent theft charge, according to the sheriff’s office.

He is described as 5-foot-8 and about 160 pounds with graying brown hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a blue jail jumpsuit when he left the work detail, authorities said.

Anyone who sees Morgan or the silver Chevrolet Trailblazer is asked to call 911.
