Hall County has confirmed its eighth rabies case of the year, officials said Wednesday.

According to Hall County Animal Services, a dog in the Wellington Avenue area of north Hall recently had contact with a rabid raccoon.

The raccoon was shipped to the Georgia Public Health Lab - Virology Section in Decatur, and animal control was notified Wednesday that it tested positive for rabies.

Positive alert signs are to be posted in the area where the rabid raccoon was found, according to animal services.

Anyone seeing an animal acting abnormally in the area is asked to contact Hall County Animal Services at 770-531-6830. After hours, Hall County Dispatch can be contacted at 770-536-8812.
