A Hall County daycare center has appealed a state-issued closure notice and one of its employees remains in jail in connection with the burning of a boy at the facility.

Discovering Basics on Cleveland Highway will have a state-assigned monitor at the facility Tuesday as the Office of State Administrative Hearings continues the appeal process, according to Reg Griffin, Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning spokesman.

The Early Care and Learning agency issued an emergency closure notice Friday because its investigation found that children attending the program were "in imminent danger," according to a news release. The investigation came after Eddye Pittmon, 55, was arrested Friday on child cruelty charges. At a hearing Monday, Pittmon was not granted a bond and will remain in jail.

Investigators believe hot liquid was poured on the stomach and leg of a 16-month-old boy June 16, resulting in second and third degree burns. Pittmon is accused of not getting proper medical treatment for the boy. She did put a topical ointment on the boy’s leg, but did not seek any other treatment. The police investigation revealed the boy’s burns went untreated until his mother picked him up eight hours later.
