The Gwinnett County school district has exceeded its projections of the number of students it will teach this school year.

Gwinnett has 173,036 students, according to statistics the district released Tuesday afternoon. The district initially projected it would have 172,383 students.

Gwinnett has more students than any school district in Georgia. Cobb is second with about 110,000 students.
