Gwinnett County firefighters reopened Sugarloaf Parkway on Thursday night after crews from Atlanta Gas Light and the City of Lawrenceville Gas located and stopped a gas leak that prompted closure of a section of the parkway and evacuation of several businesses.

Crew had evacuated 25 people and closed both sides of Sugarloaf Parkway between Five Forks Trickum and Johnson roads because of a gas leak that started around 3:15 p.m.

All businesses in the strip mall near Lawrenceville weren’t evacuated. Those that were are: The Best Hair Salon, Hand Bags (vacant business), Nail Fervour and HL Computers.

Fire department crews responded after a utility crew hit the 4-inch gas line while boring under the roadway to install fiber-optic cable.

Police diverted traffic away from the leak site.

The gas leak was stopped at 7:30 p.m. and all lanes of Sugarloaf Parkway were reopened shortly after 8 p.m.

No injuries were reported.
