Two burglars tried to break into a Gwinnett County house Thursday morning but found an armed homeowner inside.
The homeowner, whose name was not released, called 911 about 11 a.m. to report that two people were trying to break into his home, said Cpl. Jake Smith with the county Police Department. While the homeowner was still on the phone with a dispatcher, one of the burglars forced his way into the house through a window, Smith said.
“The homeowner retrieved a handgun and fired” at the burglar, Smith said in an email.
The man was hit, and both burglars “fled the scene” in a black passenger car before officers arrived at the house, Smith said.
But officials at the Gwinnett Medical Center’s campus in Duluth told police a wounded man matching the description of one of the burglars had entered the hospital about 11:30 a.m., Smith said.
The injured man, Tajh Guillont, 22, was taken to surgery in serious condition. His condition was not known late Thursday.
Another man who dropped off Guillont at the hospital left in a black car, police said. Duluth police later found a black vehicle at a nearby apartment complex. The driver has not been identified, Smith said.
Anyone with information is asked to call Gwinnett detectives at 770-513-5300 or Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
