Gwinnett police found a man fatally shot outside an apartment unit early Saturday and were questioning a tenant who said he (tenant) was the victim of a home invasion.

Police identified the dead man as Bobby Smith Jr., 21. The shooting occurred around 3:10 a.m. at the Wesley Saint Clair Apartments on Sweetwater Road.

Channel 2 Action News said police believe the un identified tenant, who neighbors said recently moved to the complex, acted in self-defense.

When police found Smith on the ground outside an apartment building, they also found bullet holes in the tenant’s nearby apartment door. Channel 2 said the shooting occurred inside the tenant’s apartment, with some of the bullets traveling through the door.

The tenant also said a second male was involved in the home invasion. The tenant, who suffered minor injuries, was taken to a police precinct for questioning.
