Georgia Power workers praised as heroes after rescuing puppies in freezing rain

Animal activists will push Cobb County commissioners to ban the sale of dogs and cats at pet stores.

In the midst of freezing rain Tuesday, two Georgia Power workers discovered a few skittish puppies that had been cast away in a dumpster, seemingly left to die.

The Gainesville workers quickly jumped into action, according to the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia. The linemen saved the pups, who had been covered in filth and showed signs of malnutrition. Their bellies were bloated and their ribs were protruding, according to a post by the Humane Society.

The Georgia Power linemen have been heralded for saving the dogs without hesitation and making sure their last moments were not spent in a trash can.

“The phrase “thrown out like trash” was taken to the next level in the worst way,” read the Tuesday Facebook post from the animal shelter. “This morning, two Georgia Power linemen rescued three puppies out of a DUMPSTER in the freezing rain...A heartfelt thank you to the Georgia Power linemen for saving these little souls.”

The three puppies are now safe and sound at the Humane Society, but the animal advocates are still hoping to raise funds and find forever homes for the pooches.

“These puppies have gone through enough terror in their short lives,” the post reads. “Please help these three innocent babies, who were discarded as trash, get the care they need to grow big and strong.”

As of Thursday evening, more than $650 has been raised for the puppies. To donate, visit the Humane Society of Northeast Georgia Facebook page.
