Photos: Solar eclipse thrills Georgians
Metro Atlanta and Georgia crowds join the rest of the country to witness a rare the total solar eclipse across the United States on Monday, Aug. 21, 2017.

August 18, 2017 DeKalb County: 4th and 5th graders from the Mohammed schools of Atlanta watch the eclipse at Fernbank Science Center. The streets that surrounded Fernbank Science Center at 156 Heaton Park Drive in DeKalb County were filled with parked cars and police directing traffic as people came to see the first total solar eclipse to cross the United States coast to coast in nearly 100 years. The Great American Eclipse as it was billed by Fernbank had plenty of glasses to pass out as hundreds of visitors descended on the center. Filtered telescopes were set up and available for viewing from the observation deck. A free Showing of Full-dome Show Totality: Explore the Wonder of Eclipses was shown and Live Feeds of Partial Eclipse from the Western U.S. and Live Discussion with FSC Staff were made available.
