Monday afternoon the Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified the man shot and killed hours earlier in the small Clayton County town of Lake City.

Kadarius Deshawn Bailey, 22, was shot multiple times in the overnight hours, according to a news release from GBI spokeswoman Sherry Lang.

The shooting happened in a stairwell at the Rainwood Apartments on Harper Drive, adjacent to Clayton State University, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Lake City Police Chief David Colwell told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution the case is active.

“We do have one witness we are working with at this time,” Colwell said early Monday. He said the suspect fled the scene on foot.
