Forsyth County Deputy Daniel Rush was awarded the Deputy Sheriff of the Year Award of Valor recently for his potentially life-saving actions in stopping an armed assault of the Forsyth County Courthouse in early June.
Rush took a bullet to the leg when he stopped Dennis Marx from entering the courthouse on June 6, officials said. Marx died on the scene after a shootout with deputies.
Sheriff Duane K. Piper and other speakers at the awards ceremony credited Rush with preventing a likely tragedy.
