Former Hall County sheriff’s lieutenant arrested

The actions of a former lieutenant in the Hall County Sheriff’s Office are now a criminal matter, authorities say.

Tammy Crawford, who served in the Office of Professional Standards as the department’s accreditation manager, was arrested by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation on Wednesday morning.

She was fired from the department in August after authorities discovered she “intentionally deleted a large amount of data from the department’s computer database,” according to a news release.

After the sheriff’s office realized the data had been tampered with, the GBI was asked to step in and investigate.

Crawford, who had been with the department since 1989, was charged with one count of computer trespass and violation of oath of officer. She was released on $10,000 bond.

Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch called the episode “a very unfortunate incident where an experienced employee made a choice and must deal with the consequence of that.

“It is disappointing to see this type of criminal activity perpetrated by any employee.”

The GBI investigation is continuing.
