A Florida sheriff's deputy fatally shot his wife Monday morning before shooting himself in an apparent murder-suicide, the Tampa Bay Times reported.
Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said four children were in the home at time of the shooting of Samantha Keithley, 33. He said her husband, Kirk Keithley, 39, worked for the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Nocco said four children, ages 14 and under, were inside the home when the shooting occurred just after midnight Monday morning. Deputies responded when a 14-year-old ran from the house in Land O' Lakes and called 911, the Times reported. The teen told 911 there had been an argument and a shot had been fired, the newspaper reported.
"A 14-year-old ran from the house. While he was running, he called 911 and said there was an argument and that he heard a shot fired from within the house," Nocco said at a news conference.
When deputies entered the home, they found the body of a woman on a couch, Nocco said. The deputies went upstairs and found three other children safe, Nocco said. In another room, they found the Hillsborough County deputy dead from an apparent gunshot wound, the Times reported.
"Just pray for these kids," Nocco said at the news conference. "It's Monday morning, there's a lot of people waking up, getting ready to go to school, and there's four children trying to put their shattered lives together and figure out what just happened to them overnight."
