West End Atlanta MARTA commuters saw something out of the ordinary during their Friday afternoon commutes. A farmers market set up right before the station's street side exit and entrance. And It may become something more and more MARTA users will see soon.

Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority and Food Oasis at the Atlanta Community Food Bank have teamed up to bring fresh produce to the loyal MARTA daily users.

"This is the pilot, hopefully it goes well so it can be something that can be duplicated at other stations across metro Atlanta," said Cicely Garrett, food systems innovations manager at the food bank.

Garrett said the West End station was chosen as the first because of its available parking and heavy foot traffic.

The market features about three tents with fresh produce, and will run Fridays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Growers of the produce sold at the station will also be at the Friday markets.
