Waterlogged trees tumbled onto metro Atlanta roads Monday, forcing some drivers to find alternate routes.
A tree landed on a vehicle Monday afternoon on Cascade Road, temporarily trapping the people inside, according to Atlanta police. Rescue workers helped get two people out of the vehicle, and no injuries were reported, said Sgt. Greg Lyon with Atlanta police.
In Cobb County, a downed tree closed Booth Road near the intersection with Sandtown Road, near Marietta.
Monday afternoon, familiar rain showers returned to the Atlanta area, and thunderstorms are possible, according to Channel 2 Action News Chief Meteorologist Glenn Burns. There is a 60 percent chance of rain Tuesday before showers diminish for the remainder of the work week, Burns said.
A large tree that toppled during Sunday night’s storms blocked a portion of Collier Road between Peachtree Road and Northside Drive earlier Monday. Motorists were forced to use side streets through neighborhoods that temporarily were without electricity due to downed power lines. A tree also blocked Campbellton Road near Delowe Drive in southwest Atlanta.
By Monday afternoon, only a handful of electricity outages remained, according to Georgia Power.
