Fall officially began at 10:29 p.m. Monday, and right on cue, overnight temperatures dipped into the 50s across much of metro Atlanta.
Readings at 7 a.m. Tuesday included 51 degrees in Dallas, 54 in Alpharetta and Peachtree City and 55 in Marietta and Johns Creek.
In the mountains, it was a chilly 45 degrees in Blairsville.
Temperatures will dip into the 50s again Tuesday night before bottoming out in the low 60s the rest of the week, according to Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton.
The remainder of the work week should be dry, with only a 10 percent chance of rain forecast for Saturday.
Minton said highs will be in the mid-70s Tuesday and Wednesday, upper 70s Thursday and low 80s Friday and Saturday.
Morning lows will be around 57 Wednesday, 60 Thursday and 62 Friday and Saturday, she said.
Atlanta’s normal high for the first week of fall is 80, the normal low 62.
