Excessive speed caused a weekend wreck that badly injured two teenagers, Gwinnett police said Monday.

The driver, Raheem Brown, 17, of Buford, and the passenger, 16-year-old Ramiah Hall of Grayson, are both still in the intensive care unit of Gwinnett Medical Center, Cpl. Ed Ritter with Gwinnett police said.

The teenagers were badly hurt Saturday around 4 a.m. when their car left the roadway at a curve on Azalea Drive near Buford Drive and struck a tree, police said.

Their injuries are life-threatening, according to police.
