Two metro Atlanta men will go to jail for using fraudulent emissions test results to sell customers bogus passing scores.
From January 2009 to March 2012, Nathaniel Johnson, Daniel Lawson and Shelton Ray operated emission stations in Cobb and Fulton counties that provided the false services to customers whose vehicles might otherwise not pass emissions, prosecutors said.
The trio would enter vehicle information into the emission analyzer while actually testing a different vehicle they knew could successfully pass inspection, authorities said.
They would usually charge more for the bogus inspection than what they were legally allowed to charge for a legitimate inspection, prosecutors said.
Johnson, of Atlanta, pleaded guilty to computer forgery and was sentenced to two years imprisonment and eight years of probation, authorities said.
Ray, of Decatur, pleaded guilty to making false statements and was sentenced to a year in prison, followed by four years of probation and a $500 fine, according to authorities
Lawson, of Atlanta, was sentenced to five years of probation for a guilty plea to making false statements, according to authorities.
