A man was shot and killed while driving on I-85 Sunday morning, according to Gwinnett County police.

Steven Vallejo, 31, of Norcross, died in a hospital following the shooting, which happened near the southbound exit for Indian Trail Lilburn Road about 12:30 a.m., officials said.

Vallejo was exiting the interstate when someone fired at his car from another vehicle, according to a statement.

The other vehicle hit the exit sign and continued driving south on I-85, police said.

Police have not determined a motive for the shooting, but road rage could be a factor.

The vehicle involved in the shooting is believed to be a silver or gray Chevrolet Malibu or Impala, police said. It will have damage to its front end.

Anyone with information on the incident or gunman is asked to contact Gwinnett police at 770-513-5300. Tipsters can remain anonymous, and be eligible for rewards of up to $2,000, by contacting Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477, texting information to 274637 or visiting the Crime Stoppers website.
