Authorities in Cherokee County are investigating how $16,000 in inventory went missing from a dress shop in Woodstock after one of the owners went on vacation.

Woodstock police are looking into the possibility that an employee who was left alone at Queen Custom Couture is responsible for the stolen property, department spokesman Sgt. Randy Milligan told AJC.com.

The co-owner of the shop on Main Street went on a cruise and recently returned to find the clothes missing. Milligan did not know exactly what was stolen.

“We're still investigating and we still have more interviews to do before charges are filed,” Milligan said, adding that a theft of this much value would be a felony.

The co-owner also reported that the employee had stolen the store credit card and tried to use it, police said. She did not respond to requests for comment.

According to the store's website, it sells a variety of dresses for weddings, proms and other formal functions.
