The roof of a popular Gwinnett County restaurant collapsed following an intense fire Wednesday afternoon, and the building could be a total loss.

Pictures from witnesses showed flames and smoke filling the sky above Dreamland Bar-B-Que on Peachtree Parkway in Peachtree Corners shortly after 5 p.m. The restaurant’s manager called 911 around 5:15 p.m. to report smoke in the attic, according to Lt. Colin Rhoden with the Gwinnett County fire department.

The manager evacuated employees and customers from the restaurant without anyone being injured, Rhoden said. Fire crews, including four engines and two ladder trucks, arrived within two minutes to find smoke throughout the business, he said.

Flames quickly spread through the building’s roof, which collapsed as firefighters doused the building with water, Rhoden said. After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters were unable to enter the building for fear it would collapse.

Investigators were working to determine the cause of the fire late Wednesday, Rhoden said.

The restaurant is one of two in metro Atlanta for the chain, which started in Alabama.
