The morning commute through Midtown on Tuesday was stymied by a slew of crashes and lane closures, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

As many as six crashes jammed up the Downtown Connector at varying points in the morning.

First, a crash at Edgewood Avenue led to a “gridlock alert” on the northbound connector about 5:15 a.m., the Traffic Center reported. That incident had cleared by 5:30 a.m., but within 10 minutes of it, another crash shut down all northbound lanes just north of 17th Street.

More trouble appeared shortly after 6 a.m., when a wreck shut down all northbound lanes of the Downtown Connector at 14th Street. Then, at 6:30 a.m., another crash closed two southbound lanes at Williams Street.

The wrecks at 17th Street and 14th Street were both cleared about 6:40 a.m., after clogging up the connector for more than an hour. The crash near Williams Street was resolved about 7:10 a.m.

However, the interstate did not stay clear for long. About 7:15 a.m., another crash closed all but one right lane at 10th Street. Authorities reopened the road shortly before 8 a.m.

It is not clear if the incidents resulted in injuries.
