A 51-year-old Douglas County man was sentenced to 40 years in prison Monday for molesting four boys over the span of two years, officials said.

Joseph Raul Montesdeoca was arrested in August 2017 following the offenses, which took place from May 2015 until he was arrested, the Douglas County Judicial Circuit said in a statement.

According to the court, Montesdeoca requested just 10 years in prison, “arguing among other things that because he was drunk at the time he was less culpable.”

Montesdeoca’s sentence also includes 30 years of probation after his prison sentence.

Douglas County District Attorney Ryan Leonard called the sentence “justice for these juvenile victims who have been robbed of their youth and their innocence by this defendant, who is nothing more than a monster that sought to prey on the most innocent members of our community.”
