One person drowned Tuesday afternoon in the Chattahoochee River, the Cobb County fire department said. But the person’s body had not been recovered late Tuesday.

A dive team returned Wednesday morning to Sandy Point Park at 3700 Akers Drive, according to Denell Boyd, spokeswoman for the fire department.

The swift water rescue team was called to the park Tuesday afternoon and was able to extricate one person, Boyd said. Another was on an island and not in distress, she said.

Shortly before 5 p.m., the third person had not been located, Boyd said. The rescue operation ended around 6:30 p.m.

The name of the missing person is being withheld pending notification of next of kin and positive identification once the victim is located, Officer Alicia Chilton with Cobb police told Channel 2 Action News.
