Clayton County firefighters rescued a disabled man from a burning home Friday afternoon.

The man, whose name was not released, was burned and injured before firefighters could get to him in the garage of the home, according to Capt. Walter Barber. The man was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

Firefighters were called to a home in the 9000 block of Chickasaw Court in Jonesboro around 1:30 p.m. and found the garage engulfed, Barber said. While the injured man was rescued, the fire spread to other parts of the house, he said.

Investigators had not determined what sparked the blaze.

Neighbor Wayne Cox told Channel 2 Action News said he knew the home’s resident was bedridden and tried to help him, but was unable to reach him.
