Gov. Nathan Deal and First Lady Sandra Deal will be promoting the state’s new day care rating system. They will join Bobby Cagle, commissioner of Bright from the Start: Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning in recognizing the first 230-plus child care centers to earn a one- to three-star rating for quality. The event takes place at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the state Capitol. Similar to rating systems for other service industries, such as restaurants and hotels, Quality Rated uses one, two and three stars to indicate early care and education programs that meet a set of standards exceeding the state’s minimum licensing requirements. Participation by child care centers is voluntary, but there are financial incentives for those who join.
