A Gwinnett County woman being evicted from her home was arrested after six dead cats were found inside her garage.

Lila Sue Brennan, 60, was charged with six counts of animal cruelty and booked into the Gwinnett County jail Thursday afternoon. She was released late Thursday after posting $3,900 bond, booking records show.

Sheriff deputies were sent to the woman’s Loganville home on Ozora Road because Brennan was being evicted.

But when deputies arrived, they found the remains of six cats in the garage, Deputy Shannon Volkodav said. There was no food or water for the animals in the garage and deputies found evidence that the cats had tried to escape, the sheriff’s office said. The cats appeared to have starved death.

In the backyard of the home, deputies found three dogs, which were transported to Animal Control to be evaluated by a veterinarian.

Brennan was not at the home Friday, but all of her belongings were strewn about outside, Channel 2 Action News reported.
