One person remained in critical condition Wednesday after being injured in a fire that also injured four firefighters.

Fire and smoke were intense when firefighters from three stations arrived at the home, located in the 1300 block of Northwest Drive, around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Janet Ward, spokeswoman for the Atlanta Fire and Rescue Department.

Firefighters pulled a man from the home and paramedics administered CPR on the man, who was in cardiac arrest, Ward said. The victim, whose name was not released, was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he remained in critical condition Wednesday.

Four firefighters sustained minor burns, but only one was transported to Grady for treatment, Ward said. That firefighter was treated at Grady and released. The other three injured firefighters were treated at the scene. The firefighters’ names were not released.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
