All lanes of I-20 eastbound were closed early Thursday morning as police investigated a crash in DeKalb County.

Early morning commuters ran into some backups Thursday when two crashes closed all lanes on I-20 East in DeKalb County near Panthersville.

The first wreck was reported just before 4 a.m. at Columbia Drive, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. Traffic was being diverted off the interstate at Candler Road when a second crash took place around 4:30 a.m., according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center.

DeKalb police said the Columbia Drive crash involved two vehicles, and the driver of one of the vehicles did not survive. No other details were provided, and police could not confirm if the Candler Road crash was part of the earlier wreck or happened separately as a result of it.

Traffic began to move again by 6:15 a.m. when all lanes were reopened once workers towed the damaged vehicles at both sites.

No details have been released about what caused the crashes.
