A 16-year-old is in custody and charged with murder after two people were found dead Thursday in Clayton County, police said.

Investigators tied the teenager to two crime scenes less than a mile apart in Morrow, according to Clayton police spokesperson Sgt. Julia Isaac.

Officers first responded to the Village at Panther Creek apartments at 6668 Mt. Zion Boulevard at 11:50 p.m. in reference to a shooting, Isaac said in a news release. Officers found 20-year-old Zachary Tallant dead in the middle of the parking lot.

As officers were beginning their work at that scene, they were notified at 11:57 p.m. about a second victim in the 6600 block of Londonberry Drive in a neighborhood just off Mt. Zion Boulevard, Isaac said. There, police found the body of 25-year-old Juan Jose Montalvo near the driveway of a residence. He had been shot multiple times, according to the release.

After it was determined the killings were connected, the investigation ultimately led to the teen’s arrest, Isaac said.

The suspect, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, faces two counts each of malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault, plus a charge of tampering with evidence. Authorities have not said what motivated the killings.
