Authorities have identified a woman found dead Thursday along Metropolitan Parkway in southwest Atlanta and arrested a teenager in connection with her shooting.

Joyce Yates, 37, was found shot in a parking lot near the intersection of Metropolitan Parkway and Lakewood Avenue just before 2:30 a.m., The Atlanta Journal-Constitution previously reported. Investigators with the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Yates’ identity Tuesday.

No further information has been released about the circumstances of Yates’ death. She was found in the parking lot of a strip mall that is largely abandoned.

The day after Yates’ body was found, Atlanta police arrested 17-year-old Nigel Sherrod Andrews, of Atlanta, on multiple charges, a news release from the department said.

Andrews has been charged as an adult with counts of felony murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, aggravated assault and carjacking. He was booked into the Fulton County Jail on Oct. 15 and remains there without bond.

“We are appreciative of the collaborative efforts of the Active Criminal Enforcement unit, Georgia State Patrol, Gangs unit and Zone 3 in assisting Investigator Malone in bringing this investigation to a close and providing closure for the victim’s family,” APD said.
