A man was arrested in Marietta on Thursday after officers discovered he was wanted in connection with a homicide in Virginia, police said.
Marietta police encountered Yarue Raul Montgomery twice before making the arrest, according to a Facebook post by the department on Saturday. Officers initially pulled the man over for a traffic stop around 4 a.m. and discovered he was wanted on a warrant out of Virginia.
The warrant didn’t give out-of-state agencies clearance to make an arrest, and Montgomery was released, police said. The department said the officer who stopped Montgomery requested clarification from the Virginia agency, but it did not respond because it was so early in the morning.
The Virginia agency was not specified.
Around 7 a.m., a different Marietta officer found Montgomery parked at a nearby business, according to the post. Knowing the situation that occurred earlier that morning, the officer kept trying to reach someone in Virginia.
The officer was able to reach a detective at the Virginia agency and confirm that they wanted the suspect arrested and they would extradite him, Marietta police said. By then, the suspect had already started to drive away, but the Marietta officer conducted a traffic stop, and Montgomery was arrested.
He was taken to Cobb County jail Thursday morning, where he is awaiting extradition to Virginia.
