A man accused in a fatal shooting Wednesday at a busy shopping center in Cobb County surrendered to police, authorities said.

Officers responded to the Windy Hill Village Shopping Center on Windy Hill Road, where they found a man who was suffering from several gunshot wounds at around 10:40 a.m. He was identified by police as Jabril Blount, 21, of Roswell.

“Unfortunately, the victim had succumbed to his injuries,” Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Eric Smith said.

Eric Townsend, of Alabama, later turned himself in to the Smyrna Police Department, officials confirmed. The 53-year-old was booked into the Cobb jail shortly after 3 p.m. on charges of murder and aggravated assault.

The shopping center is located near Cobb Parkway and is home to several stores, restaurants and the Lincoln College of Technology.
