A man was shot to death in DeKalb County’s Redan area early Thursday morning after threatening another person during an argument, according to police.

DeKalb officers got the call at around 5 a.m. When they arrived at the scene, in the 5800 block of Hallwood Court, they found the man, identified as Brandon Banks, 37, with an apparent gunshot wound. He was already dead.

The area is in a quiet neighborhood just south of Redan Road and north of I-20.

Investigators said they believe Banks was in an argument with another person and “threatened the victim with a weapon.” It was not clear what kind of weapon was used, but the victim then shot Banks in self-defense, police said.

“No charges are expected to be filed at this time,” spokesperson Lt. Shane Smith said.

No other details have been released.
