A man was shot Monday night in downtown Atlanta and later died at a hospital, police said.

Officers detained one person after the shooting at 14 Marietta Street, according to police spokesperson Officer TaSheena Brown. The site is at the corner of Marietta and Peachtree streets, outside Georgia State University’s Andrew Young School of Policy Studies and near Woodruff Park.

The victim, later identified as 35-year-old Christopher Washington, was found unresponsive there at about 8:45 p.m. Homicide detectives are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

GSU police tweeted Monday evening about the large police presence in the area, but assured anyone on campus “there is no ongoing threat.”
