A Dutchtown Middle School teacher was arrested and charged with domestic battery involving a minor, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

Demarcus Oniel Sellers Sr., 34, was arrested Wednesday shortly before 7 p.m. for the incident, which happened away from the Hampton school’s campus.

“We are limited in what we can share as this matter is still going through legal proceedings,” the sheriff’s office said in an emailed statement. The child involved is reportedly a 13-year-old student at the school, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Sellers, an eighth-grade language arts teacher, has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation. The school system is assisting the sheriff’s office with the probe.
