A Hall County man has been sentenced to life in prison after he pleaded guilty to 11 charges related to the kidnapping and brutal beating of a pregnant woman in December 2019.

Thomas Christopher Robinson Sr., 44, of Gainesville, entered his plea Monday and was sentenced to life in prison plus 70 years consecutive, Northeastern Judicial Circuit District Attorney Lee Darragh said in a news release.

Robinson pleaded guilty to kidnapping with bodily injury, four counts of aggravated battery (family violence), two counts of aggravated assault (family violence), criminal attempt to commit feticide, false imprisonment, interference with a 911 call and influencing a witness, court records show.

Most of the charges are centered on the kidnapping incident, which took place between Dec. 16-18, 2019, Darragh said. In the days before, the pregnant 38-year-old woman tried to call 911 to report a crime, but Robinson physically stopped her from completing the call. He then abducted her by punching, kicking and whipping her with a cord, keeping her confined to a room in his apartment.

According to court documents, Robinson put out a cigar on the woman’s face, broke her nose and disfigured her ears. He kicked her in the abdomen and groin with steel-toed boots, and forced her to climb into a tub full of water while he held an extension cord and threatened to electrocute her.

After Robinson had been arrested, he called the woman from jail multiple times and tried to intimidate her into not showing up for court and withholding her testimony, court records said. The district attorney’s office said that if the case had gone to trial, prosecutors planned to present evidence against Robinson involving a similar incident that took place in Louisiana eight years ago.

“I have been a felony prosecutor for 40 years,” Darragh said. “Rarely have I seen a more egregiously horrible attack upon a domestic violence victim that did not result in the death of the victim. It would be my hope that the parole board never allow this man to see the light of day again.”

Robinson has been held in the Hall County Jail without bond since Sept. 3, 2020, according to online jail records.
