A road in northern Gwinnett County that was closed for hours Friday morning while police investigated a serious injury crash involving a school bus has reopened.

The crash, which also involved a pickup truck, took place just after 6 a.m. on Hamilton Mill Road near Bogan Park, Gwinnett police said. A photo from the scene showed both vehicles with heavy front-end damage.

The bus was not carrying any students at the time.

Police said the crash sent both drivers to the hospital. The driver of the pickup was in critical condition, a police spokeswoman said, while the bus driver’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Police did not say who was at fault. No further information has been released.

Hamilton Mill Road was shut down near Bart Johnson Road for about five hours as investigators worked to determine the circumstances around the wreck. The road was reopened after 11 a.m., according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
