A 9-year-old girl who was last seen in May with her father has been found safe, according to DeKalb County police.

The announcement came Tuesday afternoon, one day after the police department requested the public’s help to locate the child and her father. While police have not confirmed any details about the case, her mother said the girl is home after being located with her father in McIntosh County.

The 9-year-old was last seen with her father, Jeffery Jones, near the 4100 block of Wesley Club Drive on May 20. Police said they left the area near Decatur and were believed to have crossed state lines.

The girl’s mother, Kiesha Wade, told Channel 2 Action News that Jeffery grabbed their daughter from her apartment and drove away as Wade briefly held onto the car.

He then traveled to Michigan, Virginia, and Florida with the girl before they were found near the Georgia coast in McIntosh County, family members told Channel 2. The child was not injured and her father faces several charges, including kidnapping, according to the news station.

“I just have my baby home safe and sound and that’s all I wanted her to be — was home,” Wade said.
