The GBI is asking for help locating a car taken from the scene of a homicide in Terrell County that was spotted Monday in Marietta.

The 2006 black Hyundai Elantra was last spotted around noon in a residential area in the 300 block of Johnson Ferry Road, the GBI said in a post shared on multiple social media platforms. It has a paper tag with the number C0521643.

According to a GBI news release, the car belonged to 59-year-old Annie Josie Chappell of Dawson, a town in southwest Georgia near Albany with a population of about 4,500.

Earlier Monday, Dawson police were called to Chappell’s home in the 400 block of Boundary Street and found her dead inside, officials said in the release. She lived alone, and her vehicle was missing.

The police department then asked the GBI to assist in the investigation. A GBI medical examiner will conduct an autopsy.

Officials did not say if the person driving the car was a suspect in the homicide case.

Anyone who has spotted the car or who may have information about this incident is asked to call the GBI’s tip line at 1-800-597-8477 or the Dawson Police Department at 229-995-4414.
