A short police chase in Marietta briefly blocked a busy road during the morning rush Tuesday.

The pursuit came to an end when the suspect crashed shortly before 8 a.m. at the intersection of Allgood Road and Cobb Parkway. Marietta police closed the northbound lanes of Allgood Road until the investigation could be moved into a nearby QuikTrip parking lot.

According to Marietta police spokesman Officer Chuck McPhilamy, officers received an alert that there was a stolen vehicle in the area, but when they found it, the suspect fled.

Officers did not pursue at that point, but they soon received another alert that the vehicle was still within the city. When they found the vehicle a second time, the suspect tried to hit one of the officers with the vehicle, McPhilamy said.

A pursuit ensued and ended a short time later near the QuikTrip.

No one was reported injured, including the suspect, McPhilamy said. The man was taken to a hospital as a precaution but is not cooperating, the police spokesman said. Officers will need to further investigate to determine his identity.
