Atlanta police are investigating a shooting that detectives say resulted from a botched armed robbery Thursday afternoon in northeast Atlanta.

A police spokesperson confirmed that the shooting happened about 4:10 p.m. at the intersection of Piedmont and Rockledge roads. Officers responded and found a man with a gunshot wound, according to a preliminary report.

Investigators at the scene told Channel 2 Action News they found the victim in a white van stopped in the median. The man, who has not been identified, was taken to a hospital, and his condition was not released.

Detectives cordoned off portions of Piedmont Road and blocked off several roads in the area as they combed the scene for evidence, according to the news station.

Investigators said the shooting appears to have been the byproduct of an armed robbery attempt. No additional details were provided about the case, which detectives with the police department’s aggravated assault unit are investigating.
